CORPORATE PROFILE & EXPERIENCE

Muhammad Azly Haziq Bin Sazali is an associate in Ashraf & Partners. He is a skilled and experienced legal professional with a strong foundation in various areas of law. With a keen eye on the law and a commitment to excellence, he has consistently delivered high-quality legal services to clients, both in legal practice and in-house.

 

Upon graduating with his LL.B Bachelor of Laws degree from International Islamic University Malaysia, he performed his pupillage at Azmi & Associates. During his pupillage, he attended to legal aid sessions at the Malaysian Trades Union Congress. 

 

After completing his pupillage, he furthered his studies at his alma mater, graduating with a Master of Comparative Laws (MCL).

 

He subsequently went into content moderation, providing legal training to employees of vendors of, and services to, a multi-national video-sharing platform, before joining Ashraf & Partners.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in:

 

A.    General Corporate

 

        (i)       Legal due diligence exercise for the acquisition of shares in an Independent Power Producer;

        (ii)      Legal advisory in relation to industrial relations matters of a public-listed telecommunications company;

        (iii)     Legal advisory in relation to the shareholding of state royalty in companies vis-à-vis the Federal Constitution and                          the relevant state constitution;

        (iv)     Legal advisory in relation to the obligations and liabilities of a body incorporated under the Trustees (Incorporation)                     Act 1952 vis-à-vis a state enactment on the administration of the religion of Islam;

        (v)      Drafting and reviewing of a livestock sale & purchase agreement and livestock farm management agreement for a                        state government entity;

        (vi)      Drafting and reviewing the services agreement of a private company providing LiDAR topographical mapping                                 services using manned and unmanned aerial vehicles; 

        (vii)     Legal advisory and assistance with respect to legal compliance in relation to the incorporation of a wholly owned                         single purpose entity and requirement for registration under the Pesticides Act by an international company which                     produces cuprous oxide for agricultural and paint-making purposes;

        (viii)    Legal advisory and assistance with respect to legal compliance in relation to the acquisition of a dairy                                               manufacturing business by the world’s second largest dairy company; and 

        (ix)      Preparation of a litigation strategy paper in relation to the recourse available to a farmers’ organisation in respect                         of a below market value lease executed by such farmers’ organisation. 

​​B.    Legal Research, Teaching and Training

 

        (i)       Assisted in the instruction of an undergraduate Malaysian Business Law Course;

 

        (ii)      Assisted in legal research on renewable energy in Malaysia and the ASEAN region;

 

        (iii)     Provided legal training to employees of vendors of, and services to, a multi-national video-sharing platform in                                relation to compliance with, among others:

  1.   Laws on defamation;

  2.   Trademarks laws;

  3.   Laws against counterfeit goods;

  4.   Privacy and right to be forgotten laws, both EU specifically and globally in general;

  5.   The Australian Online Safety Act (OSA) 2021 law (not to be confused with the Malaysian Official Secrets Act            (OSA) 1972 law);

  6.   South Korean Internet Safety Agency (KISA)-related laws;

  7.   Indian and South Korean election-related laws;

  8.   The United States’ Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA) 1998, with emphasis on matters pertaining to                  circumvention of technological measures; and

  9.   Miscellaneous complaints by national governments based on their respective national laws.
